Hermann Ebbinghaus was a German psychologist who evolved the experimental study of content retention in our memory.
This discovery was known as the Forgetting curve or the Learning curve. The first aspect of this finding suggests that learning information is the fastest in the first try, however it fades away from the memory rapidly. Which means, material learnt the first time is likely to be lost to an extent of 90-95 % in a week’s time.
Now the important aspect is how this forgetting curve can be changed. Hermann Ebbinghaus highlighted that constant repetition of the same content weekly or bi-weekly increases the retention back to original level but most importantly – it also reduces the rate of forgetting.
This means that if a person can lose 90% of information after the first try of learning, the probability of forgetting the same content after the second repetition becomes close to 70-80%.
These repeated revisions after 2-5 repetitions (over a period of 2-6 months) help retain the content in our memory to almost 100% for over months. Such content stays in our memory for a very long time.
OClass Academy has used this study to format the portal in such a way that students are able to practice new and old content again and again unlimited times to increase their content retention to maximum potential. This way students are not just depending on the limited syllabus, but are actually learning the language proficiently for life. To further improve the base knowledge of a language – Vocabulary and Grammar has been split into 18 sections so students and parents know which part of language needs more assistance.
